Do you know someone around you who is facing anxiety or depression? Do you know someone who want your help but you dont know how to help them? Need not to worry. In this blog you will find some of the ways in which you can support your friend having mental illness.
These people may not ask you for your help but your should still support them because it is all that they need at this time. They only need a friend to talk so dont go away from them. Try your best to console them. Here are some ways to help your friends:
1.Never suggest Just listen:
If you have a friend with mental illness and you suggest them ways to overcome it like listen to music, do some workout etc. Stop doing this now. Although these techniques really work for depression but people dont want anyone to suggest them ways to overcome depression. It gives them a feel that other person will never understand how difficult it is. Moreover, they are not in a state to listen to someone but they need someone to listen to them.
So instead of suggesting things just sit by their side and give them space to talk.
2. Dont argue with them:
Never argue with a person having mental health problem unless you want to lose his or her friendship. Just stay loyal to them and always agree to their opinions. Atleast for sometime till when they are not in good condition.
Just remember that they are really fragile and emotional right now and they just need you .
3.motivate them to go for a therapy:
If your friend is not having a therapy you should motivate him to have some sessions as professional aid can always work better. Do it in a way that they find your suggestion effective. By this I mean that dont just directly say that you should go and have a session. Instead you can say that someone in my family has started taking sessions and he is very happy now etc.
And if your friend is already taking sessions but not finding it interesting motivate her so that she attends her sessions regularly.
4.Keep remembering them that they are really brave :
Daily little reminders of something really cute and motivating can make someones day really happy. Especially for someone who is depressed. So time by time try to appreciate their efforts that they are making. Make them feel that they are doing their best and everything will bee just fine
